WEBVTT
00:12.200 --> 00:15.490
Found you, Noel Stollen.
01:46.630 --> 01:50.730
I'm telling you, man,
you're not gonna get any takers.
01:51.030 --> 01:53.440
Shut up. Stop bothering me
when I'm here for interviews.
01:53.440 --> 02:00.030
I mean, any Seeker who's good enough
to get in here is in a party or clan already.
02:00.320 --> 02:04.490
Wolf, this is none of your business. Buzz off.
02:04.890 --> 02:07.020
Don't be such a stranger.
02:07.020 --> 02:09.540
Talkers can't fight alone, remember?
02:09.540 --> 02:12.250
Just join my party!
You'd be more than welcome.
02:13.580 --> 02:15.090
Lightning Bite...
02:15.750 --> 02:17.730
Besides their leader, Wolf the Swordsman,
02:17.730 --> 02:22.180
they've also got an elven Archer named Lycia
and other skilled members.
02:22.180 --> 02:25.760
Even among C-rank parties, they're
considered a hotshot group of rookies.
02:26.120 --> 02:31.940
You're bound to make more joining up with us
than scraping together new members.
02:33.010 --> 02:34.110
So come on already!
02:34.110 --> 02:36.370
That's enough, Wolf.
02:37.060 --> 02:38.960
You're bothering Noel.
02:38.960 --> 02:42.900
No wonder that florist girl rejected you.
You've got zero game.
02:42.900 --> 02:44.200
Yup, yup.
02:44.500 --> 02:48.910
Hey, Lycia! Don't go revealing
private details of my love life!
02:48.910 --> 02:52.420
Besides, I was just getting
to the real negotiating here!
02:52.420 --> 02:52.920
Wolf.
02:52.920 --> 02:55.390
Oh? Have you changed your mind?
02:55.390 --> 02:58.170
Yeah, but I have a condition.
02:59.350 --> 03:02.540
Hear that, you guys?
I've got plenty of game with bros—
03:02.540 --> 03:04.530
I'm in if you make me the leader.
03:05.560 --> 03:06.390
Huh?
03:06.710 --> 03:08.560
Sure. Right, guys?
03:08.560 --> 03:09.900
I'm fine with that.
03:09.900 --> 03:11.240
Same here.
03:11.240 --> 03:12.610
Me three!
03:12.610 --> 03:14.930
Hey, that was quick!
03:14.930 --> 03:16.740
What about my opinion?
03:16.740 --> 03:19.610
What's the issue? Noel's smarter than you.
03:19.610 --> 03:22.220
I guess when you put it that way...
03:22.220 --> 03:25.750
No, wait, wait, wait!
There's one real big issue!
03:25.750 --> 03:29.250
I'm the leader! I founded Lightning Bite!
03:30.480 --> 03:32.790
Are you Noel Stollen?
03:34.600 --> 03:36.590
Whoa! When'd she get here?
03:36.590 --> 03:37.750
This girl...
03:38.230 --> 03:42.010
Did she just get the drop on Lycia,
an excellent tracker?
03:42.010 --> 03:44.060
I'm Alma.
03:44.060 --> 03:46.910
I saw your poster in the square.
03:53.730 --> 03:57.360
How old are you?
Children can't become Seekers, you know?
03:57.800 --> 04:00.820
I'm 21. A proper adult.
04:00.820 --> 04:03.530
Wow, she's five years older than you!
04:03.810 --> 04:05.220
Favorite food?
04:05.220 --> 04:06.190
Strawberries.
04:06.190 --> 04:07.220
Any hobbies?
04:07.220 --> 04:08.040
Going on walks.
04:08.040 --> 04:09.880
What do you do in your free time?
04:09.880 --> 04:11.380
Stretch, I guess.
04:11.380 --> 04:12.920
Favorite book?
04:12.920 --> 04:18.130
Elizabeth Grese's 100 Techniques
to Turn a Tough Guy into a Damsel.
04:18.530 --> 04:20.090
What's your class and rank?
04:20.500 --> 04:23.050
Scout. Rank C.
04:23.050 --> 04:26.350
A Scout, huh? Not bad.
04:26.350 --> 04:31.650
Scouts and Archers skilled in detection
and tracking are a major boon in Abysses.
04:32.280 --> 04:35.270
I kinda wish she'd shown
up sooner, but oh well.
04:35.600 --> 04:37.630
Last question.
04:37.630 --> 04:39.770
Why'd you want to be a Seeker?
04:40.120 --> 04:42.530
I have no interest in being a Seeker.
04:42.530 --> 04:44.490
The only thing I'm interested in...
04:44.800 --> 04:48.170
is you, the grandson of Overdeath.
04:48.170 --> 04:49.950
You knew my grandfather?
04:50.320 --> 04:55.230
Not me. My gramps said he fought him.
04:55.230 --> 04:58.080
That's how he got his right arm sliced off.
04:59.190 --> 05:03.090
You're not here to avenge him, are you?
05:03.090 --> 05:06.590
No, I wouldn't do something so unproductive.
05:07.070 --> 05:12.220
I just want to see what kind of Seeker
such a hero's grandson has become.
05:12.570 --> 05:13.650
You don't say...
05:14.160 --> 05:17.420
Well, sorry about that.
My grandfather is no longer alive,
05:17.420 --> 05:21.140
so please accept my apology on his behalf.
05:21.140 --> 05:23.070
My gramps died last month too.
05:23.070 --> 05:25.320
What's done is done. No need to apologize.
05:25.840 --> 05:28.070
Say, what was your grandfather's name?
05:28.800 --> 05:30.700
Alcor Judikhali.
05:34.780 --> 05:37.830
Alcor Judikhali?
05:38.490 --> 05:39.950
The Society of Assassins...
05:40.450 --> 05:44.750
An underworld enterprise supposedly
willing to kill anyone for money.
05:45.600 --> 05:49.370
Alcor was its founder and first chief.
05:50.150 --> 05:51.880
The man was a legendary assassin.
05:53.110 --> 05:56.020
This lass is the Alcor's grandkid?
05:56.370 --> 05:59.020
If that's a joke, it ain't funny.
05:59.020 --> 06:03.980
Don't go thinking you can just spout
whatever lies you want around here.
06:03.980 --> 06:06.290
This's got nothing to do with you, Logan.
06:06.290 --> 06:10.280
Seeker taverns have
an unwritten rule, you hear?
06:10.280 --> 06:13.950
Only Seekers of a certain
prestige are allowed in.
06:13.950 --> 06:15.600
News to me.
06:15.600 --> 06:17.960
See? You're a total rook.
06:18.880 --> 06:21.140
Now, lemme tell you something else.
06:21.140 --> 06:27.350
It's customary for the regulars
to cream anyone who breaks that rule.
06:27.350 --> 06:28.720
Noel, a question.
06:29.100 --> 06:30.040
What?
06:30.040 --> 06:32.680
What determines a Seeker's prestige?
06:33.000 --> 06:38.020
Their class and rank, for starters. Following
that, strength that's plain for all to see.
06:38.020 --> 06:40.140
Okay, understood.
06:40.450 --> 06:41.600
In that case...
06:41.910 --> 06:45.320
I just need to pound this
haughty gorilla into the ground, right?
06:45.320 --> 06:46.720
Whoa, hey now!
06:46.720 --> 06:50.150
Of all the things to say to Logan...
06:51.410 --> 06:53.490
Who're you calling a gorilla?!
06:53.490 --> 06:58.160
You ain't getting outta here alive,
you stupid pig!
06:58.870 --> 07:00.210
Too slow.
07:05.380 --> 07:07.090
There. All done.
07:13.620 --> 07:15.300
You're hired!
07:21.930 --> 07:23.870
I'm hungry.
07:30.110 --> 07:32.390
Mm! This is yummy!
07:32.390 --> 07:36.360
Fried buns are hardly a rare delicacy.
07:36.360 --> 07:39.330
I never had anything this tasty
in the mountains.
07:40.370 --> 07:44.090
So you really are Alcor's grandkid, huh?
07:44.090 --> 07:47.260
Hmm? Did you not believe me?
07:47.260 --> 07:51.970
Came you blame me? It's a pretty bold claim
to make after showing up out of nowhere.
07:52.920 --> 07:58.470
But I believed that you were
Overdeath's grandson right away.
07:59.970 --> 08:01.250
It's your eyes.
08:01.680 --> 08:05.650
They tell me you're willing
to do anything to come out on top.
08:06.240 --> 08:10.910
My gramps warned me never to fight Overdeath.
08:10.910 --> 08:14.130
Said he was unpredictable
and incomprehensible.
08:14.130 --> 08:17.320
That nobody stood a chance
fighting him head-on.
08:17.840 --> 08:21.450
Your eyes reminded me of his words.
08:22.920 --> 08:26.880
Were you training to be
an Assassin in the mountains?
08:26.880 --> 08:32.090
Yup. Training to go from Scout
to Assassin and beyond.
08:32.720 --> 08:37.300
I haven't formally made rank B yet,
but I've met the requirements.
08:37.300 --> 08:41.270
So, why didn't you join
the Society of Assassins?
08:41.270 --> 08:43.580
Should be easy with your skills.
08:43.580 --> 08:45.880
That was the plan, actually.
08:49.390 --> 08:51.280
I trust you're ready for this.
08:53.440 --> 08:54.740
What a letdown.
08:55.200 --> 08:59.150
Is this weakling really my trial opponent?
08:59.150 --> 09:02.370
What was that?! Know your place, C-ranker!
09:02.660 --> 09:05.080
I'll show you what a real assassin is made of!
09:17.790 --> 09:20.050
Don't! This is a test!
09:20.460 --> 09:22.180
My gramps told me that, here,
09:22.180 --> 09:27.560
the strong survive and the weak
offer up their lives to the god of hell.
09:27.840 --> 09:31.190
That was in the past!
Before our new leader!
09:31.190 --> 09:33.280
Those ancient, sinister
traditions are long gone!
09:33.280 --> 09:36.490
I don't care. This is what I was taught.
09:36.650 --> 09:37.900
That's enough.
09:40.190 --> 09:41.370
Who are you?
09:42.720 --> 09:44.890
Simon Gregory.
09:45.810 --> 09:48.060
The current leader of the Society.
09:49.820 --> 09:51.970
But I was rejected.
09:52.430 --> 09:56.530
They said I wasn't a good fit
and tossed me out.
09:57.150 --> 09:58.910
Even with your strength?
09:58.910 --> 10:01.020
I was strong enough.
10:01.020 --> 10:04.390
But they said I was lacking
in other attributes.
10:06.160 --> 10:10.180
That they're making changes
under new leadership
10:10.180 --> 10:13.320
and don't need Assassins
trained in the old ways anymore.
10:13.860 --> 10:18.240
The Society has always been
an independent secret organization,
10:18.240 --> 10:21.570
but the crown is taking them
under its wing soon.
10:22.460 --> 10:25.090
You mean they'll be government-affiliated?
10:25.090 --> 10:26.290
Apparently.
10:26.720 --> 10:31.250
They said they're gonna focus more
on espionage work than contract killing.
10:31.250 --> 10:35.790
The new leader believes that's
what will secure the Society's future.
10:37.550 --> 10:40.350
Hey, that's extremely important intel.
10:40.350 --> 10:42.800
Not the kind of thing you drop
while munching on a bun!
10:42.800 --> 10:47.060
Oh, he did say it was top secret! Welp.
10:47.800 --> 10:49.980
Yeah, "welp" doesn't cover that.
10:49.980 --> 10:54.600
Just don't tell me they'll send
a bunch of Assassins to silence me.
10:54.600 --> 10:56.530
Relax, Noel.
10:57.650 --> 11:02.450
It's all good. Your big sis is here
to protect you if anything happens.
11:03.950 --> 11:05.950
"Big sis," my foot!
11:07.950 --> 11:10.960
The Real Deal
11:12.610 --> 11:16.950
How much do you know about
support classes and buffers?
11:16.950 --> 11:19.130
Not too much, really.
11:19.560 --> 11:24.820
Just that they're weak on their own
but have potent support skills,
11:24.820 --> 11:27.920
and it's their job to use
those on their party.
11:27.920 --> 11:29.100
That's right.
11:29.400 --> 11:33.080
But it's not as easy as using buffs
and calling it a day.
11:33.080 --> 11:34.070
It's not?
11:34.070 --> 11:37.320
First of all, buffs have
a wide range of effects.
11:37.720 --> 11:42.650
For instance, take the Talker skill
Assault Command.
11:38.320 --> 11:39.820
ASSAULT COMMAND
11:42.650 --> 11:45.970
While it has the ability
to end a battle in the blink of an eye,
11:45.970 --> 11:48.670
it can also wipe your entire party
if used incorrectly.
11:48.990 --> 11:50.950
That's scary.
11:50.950 --> 11:55.710
That's why buffers have be able
to assess the entire battle before casting.
11:56.320 --> 11:59.980
We give orders that bring out
the best in our teammates.
11:59.980 --> 12:02.770
We read the flow of the battle and control it.
12:03.670 --> 12:05.930
That's a buffer's real job.
12:06.290 --> 12:09.980
However, we Talkers cannot buff ourselves.
12:09.980 --> 12:13.140
We're a class that can't really
fight and survive in battle.
12:13.140 --> 12:16.100
But I know you can, Noel.
12:16.710 --> 12:19.060
I'd be long dead if I couldn't.
12:23.170 --> 12:26.700
I want you to catch a monster for me.
12:26.700 --> 12:27.990
A monster?
12:28.520 --> 12:32.180
Flora and fauna that have been
mutated by the Abyss.
12:32.720 --> 12:35.990
They're not as dangerous as beasts,
but they're dangerous enough.
12:35.990 --> 12:39.040
Hunting them is part of a Seeker's duties.
12:39.510 --> 12:43.580
Today, you're after a killer rabbit,
a bunny monster with an iron horn.
12:43.580 --> 12:46.260
Wow, how cute! Are we gonna eat it?
12:46.620 --> 12:47.610
We're not.
12:48.030 --> 12:53.150
They're very aggressive. Let their
appearance fool you, and you'll get skewered.
12:53.150 --> 12:55.410
You're only catching one as an experiment.
12:55.410 --> 12:56.520
An experiment?
12:57.150 --> 13:01.980
I want you to catch one while I buff you.
13:02.300 --> 13:06.020
I don't need your support
to catch a bunny. That's easy work.
13:06.020 --> 13:10.880
But what if I buff you beyond the norm?
What do you think will happen then?
13:11.620 --> 13:14.860
An easy task will become even easier?
13:14.860 --> 13:19.000
That's what you'd think,
but it's not so simple.
13:19.000 --> 13:25.720
You're going to need the ability
to take advantage of my buffs.
13:26.590 --> 13:29.380
As a Scout, do you have the Accel skill?
13:29.380 --> 13:32.430
Yep. It doubles my speed.
13:32.760 --> 13:35.930
It stacks, too. I can go up
to quintuple speed.
13:36.970 --> 13:39.150
Could you use it perfectly from the start?
13:39.490 --> 13:43.750
No way. I had to train
and let my body adjust to the speed.
13:43.750 --> 13:47.530
Otherwise, I would've torn
muscles and broken bones.
13:47.820 --> 13:51.250
Right? That's how it is
even with your own skills.
13:51.250 --> 13:56.800
It takes time to adapt to the increased
capabilities a buff gives you.
13:56.800 --> 13:57.910
I see now.
13:58.340 --> 14:01.920
This test will tell me how compatible you are.
14:02.210 --> 14:06.430
And the results will determine
our plans going forward.
14:07.650 --> 14:12.180
As good as my old party was, it took them
half a month to get used to my buffs.
14:12.520 --> 14:13.430
For you...
14:13.430 --> 14:16.140
No need to worry. I'll get it done.
14:19.090 --> 14:22.060
How many killer rabbits are in the vicinity?
14:22.490 --> 14:26.030
Thirteen in a 200-meter radius.
14:26.030 --> 14:27.530
That'll do.
14:27.800 --> 14:29.490
Let's start the test!
14:29.490 --> 14:31.900
Battle Voice! Tactician!
14:29.780 --> 14:30.700
BATTLE VOICE
14:31.200 --> 14:32.070
TACTICIAN
14:33.120 --> 14:34.480
How do you feel?
14:34.990 --> 14:40.460
It's a strange sensation.
I feel energy welling up inside of me.
14:40.870 --> 14:46.110
So long as you follow my orders,
all of your abilities will be enhanced.
14:46.110 --> 14:47.420
Incredible.
14:48.020 --> 14:50.930
Stack your Accel to the maximum.
14:50.930 --> 14:54.720
Your fivefold speed increase
should now be sixfold.
14:54.720 --> 14:55.810
Roger.
14:56.800 --> 15:01.810
You pass if you catch
at least one within ten seconds.
15:02.220 --> 15:05.320
This is an order!
Go catch some killer rabbits!
15:05.660 --> 15:06.640
Accel:
15:08.600 --> 15:09.740
Quintuple.
15:17.330 --> 15:20.790
Wow, my body feels light as a feather.
15:22.690 --> 15:25.800
So this is what a Talker can do!
15:26.590 --> 15:29.550
Five, six, seven...
15:29.550 --> 15:31.010
I'm back!
15:31.780 --> 15:34.080
There. Thirteen in total.
15:34.080 --> 15:35.220
All knocked out.
15:35.730 --> 15:37.790
You caught every single one?
15:37.790 --> 15:40.180
Yup! What was my time?
15:40.580 --> 15:42.390
I've got 8.6 seconds.
15:42.890 --> 15:46.600
I can't believe she adapted
to a buff so easily the first time around.
15:47.230 --> 15:49.860
Is this what it means to be born talented?
15:50.570 --> 15:51.980
I'm so jealous.
15:52.960 --> 15:55.080
Do you want to continue the experiments?
15:55.080 --> 15:57.310
Nah, I've seen enough.
15:57.310 --> 16:00.040
Given the result, there's no need
for any further training.
16:01.960 --> 16:06.710
With that settled, we'll be taking on
our first request as a party.
16:06.710 --> 16:11.050
Ooh, my first job! I've never been
in an Abyss before.
16:11.990 --> 16:13.010
A letter?
16:13.010 --> 16:17.220
Yeah. A little town we once cleared
of monsters sent us a request.
16:17.220 --> 16:20.150
"Dear Noel Stollen..."
16:20.150 --> 16:24.440
"A band of thieves has appeared
on the outskirts of Mintz Village."
16:26.260 --> 16:30.650
The reborn Blue Beyond's first job
is a bandit hunt.
16:32.770 --> 16:35.530
I've never ridden a stagecoach before!
16:35.820 --> 16:37.530
This is fun.
16:37.530 --> 16:39.740
It's only fun in the beginning.
16:40.050 --> 16:43.200
This trip to Mintz will be
sickeningly long.
16:43.460 --> 16:45.080
It's that far?
16:45.080 --> 16:48.170
Yeah. Far enough to turn your butt to stone.
16:48.970 --> 16:53.630
Let me tell you about the various jobs
we Seekers get to kill some time.
16:55.290 --> 16:56.300
Please do.
16:57.610 --> 17:01.750
Seekers handle all kinds of work,
17:01.750 --> 17:04.750
not just felling the beasts
that manifest in Abysses.
17:05.500 --> 17:08.350
There are also monster hunts,
where we eliminate monsters.
17:08.810 --> 17:12.140
There's criminal hunts,
where we pursue and capture outlaws.
17:12.900 --> 17:16.030
Then there's treasure hunting,
which is self-explanatory.
17:16.750 --> 17:20.080
There's also mythic hunts, where we explore
uncharted territory and the like.
17:20.740 --> 17:24.040
Bandit problems like the one
we're going to deal with
17:24.040 --> 17:26.480
are usually the regional
lord's responsibility.
17:27.290 --> 17:29.650
But they can be slow to act.
17:30.040 --> 17:32.820
Villages can be in danger
of getting razed before help arrives.
17:33.570 --> 17:37.640
In such cases, they might
request help from Seekers like us.
17:37.640 --> 17:38.930
That kinda sucks.
17:39.220 --> 17:42.730
Yeah, our client is a poor farming village.
17:42.730 --> 17:44.580
We can't expect much by way of a reward,
17:44.580 --> 17:46.640
but this will make a good trial run.
17:46.640 --> 17:50.740
So we take out the evildoers
bringing harm to innocent villagers?
17:50.740 --> 17:52.110
Sounds good to me!
17:53.090 --> 17:55.320
I appreciate you looking at it that way.
18:14.360 --> 18:16.050
Ugh...
18:16.050 --> 18:19.720
My butt's all stiff. I hate carriages.
18:19.720 --> 18:22.760
I told you it's only fun in the beginning.
18:23.800 --> 18:25.720
You meanie.
18:25.720 --> 18:29.310
We'll stay the night here in Eudora.
18:29.310 --> 18:33.040
We'll switch coaches tomorrow
morning and head for Mintz.
18:34.470 --> 18:36.400
I'm sorry!
18:36.400 --> 18:39.360
We're full for the night.
18:39.880 --> 18:42.070
Too bad. We'll try a different place.
18:42.070 --> 18:44.030
Better luck next time.
18:44.390 --> 18:45.870
On to the next one!
18:45.870 --> 18:47.700
You were a minute too late.
18:47.700 --> 18:48.830
Next!
18:48.830 --> 18:50.290
Just filled the last room.
18:56.330 --> 18:57.880
We can finally rest.
18:58.190 --> 19:01.500
The food was awful, but the room's nice.
19:01.500 --> 19:03.500
This was the only room we could find.
19:03.500 --> 19:05.350
You can take the bed, Alma.
19:05.350 --> 19:07.100
Where'll you sleep?
19:07.100 --> 19:08.810
On the floor.
19:08.810 --> 19:12.020
Why? Just sleep in the bed with me.
19:12.020 --> 19:15.520
Yeah, I don't think that's a good idea.
19:15.520 --> 19:17.780
Oh, are you blushing? How cute.
19:17.780 --> 19:19.500
I am not blushing.
19:19.500 --> 19:21.260
Then let's sleep together!
19:21.260 --> 19:24.540
I'm your big sis, after all,
so it's totally cool.
19:24.540 --> 19:26.160
"Big sis," my foot!
19:30.810 --> 19:32.960
He really is cute.
19:47.390 --> 19:48.340
What?
19:49.670 --> 19:51.780
Nice body.
19:52.640 --> 19:55.100
Splendid. Just great.
19:55.100 --> 19:57.360
You're like a wild animal.
19:57.780 --> 20:00.070
Your muscles are lean and toned.
20:00.350 --> 20:01.120
Hey.
20:02.300 --> 20:05.230
You honestly do have a great body.
20:05.230 --> 20:07.660
It's really too bad.
20:08.060 --> 20:09.070
Why?
20:10.120 --> 20:14.580
It takes an absurd amount of hard work
to build a body like that.
20:14.580 --> 20:19.840
But no matter how hard you train,
you'll never compare to frontline fighters.
20:20.780 --> 20:24.550
Hard work can't trump talent.
20:24.990 --> 20:26.760
That's why it's a shame.
20:26.760 --> 20:30.520
If you were a Warrior like Overdeath,
20:30.520 --> 20:33.020
you could've become the ultimate Seeker.
20:35.080 --> 20:36.020
Alma.
20:36.020 --> 20:37.230
What?
20:37.230 --> 20:38.760
Close your eyes.
20:38.760 --> 20:39.770
Like this?
20:41.650 --> 20:42.740
Ow!
20:42.740 --> 20:44.060
What gives?!
20:44.060 --> 20:46.450
Mind your own business.
20:46.450 --> 20:50.000
Go take your bath. I'm going to sleep.
20:50.000 --> 20:52.110
Hmph, fine.
21:04.630 --> 21:08.910
It takes an absurd amount of hard work
to build a body like that.
21:08.910 --> 21:14.100
But no matter how hard you train,
you'll never compare to frontline fighters.
21:14.440 --> 21:18.160
Hard work can't trump talent.
21:19.340 --> 21:23.200
I know that better than anyone.
21:25.270 --> 21:26.570
Stop crying, Noel!
21:26.570 --> 21:29.980
But I got assigned the weakest class.
21:29.980 --> 21:33.810
I wanted to be a Warrior like you, Grandpa.
21:34.950 --> 21:39.260
Noel, you're the spitting image
of your late mother.
21:39.680 --> 21:41.370
But I can tell...
21:42.050 --> 21:47.170
Unlike her and just like me,
you have an innate talent to be a Seeker.
21:47.510 --> 21:53.350
So what if you're a Talker?
I'll train you into the greatest Seeker.
21:54.090 --> 21:55.790
Trust me.
22:01.770 --> 22:02.910
Grandpa...
23:34.950 --> 23:39.950
An Apology Won't Cut It
